Dingle 1991
The boatmen in Dingle and other tourism sources will tell you that at night Fungie sleeps in a cave under the cliffs to the west of the harbour mouth at Dingle. Of course this is nonsense; if dolphins slept like humans do, which they don't, they would hardly choose the enclosed waters of a sea-cave where they could be dashed to pieces by the first big wave. But still the myth is repeated. In fact, Fungie carries on as normal in the night-time hours, patrolling inside the harbour, hunting, feeding, following boats, meeting other dolphins and even swimmers if they are around despite the dark!
Nevertheless the cave does exist and up to at least 1992, Fungie would readily follow a small boat round that far and hang around there for a while, though he would not go further west. Here the cameraman is at the entrance to the cave, looking out.
