Dusty has moved

Having been inundated with people emailing us asking whether Dusty has left Fanore as she had not been seen for over a week, we are pleased to report that she has turned up a bit further down the coast and, by all reports, in good health.

Dusty has had a traumatic couple of weeks, firstly with a dead calf, not thought to be her own, that she brought to some swimmers and then supposedly being roughed up by a group of male bottlenose dolphins. It is thought, although Irishdolphins.com can not verify this, that she moved from her home for the last three summers of Fanore, because of the over amorous attention paid to her by those male dolphins. This is backed up in part by the fact that the cove she has moved to is not on the regular swimming path of a resident pod of bottlenose dolphins between Ballyvahan and the Aran Isles, whereas Fanore was on that path.
As neither Graham nor I have yet had a chance to visit Dusty in her new habitat we cannot say too much about the location. It is understood to be between Lisdoonvarna and Fanore but other than that we know very little. The coastline along there is very treacherous with jagged rocks and turbulent currents, so anyone going to swim with her please be warned and take the necessary precautions. And of course, let us know how you get on.
