We have had no reports of Dusty the Clare dolphin since Saturday 19th December. Regular swimmers have scoured the nearby coastline without sighting her. If she has temporarily relocated elsewhere, it will not be the first time; she was also absent from Fanore for a couple of weeks in the middle of last winter, but then returned to be as faithful a resident as before. So we are not unduly concerned for her safety.
It’s possible that Dusty will turn up elsewhere, and also that she has rejoined a more normal dolphin life as part of a pod. Of course, we would love to know! Quite often, ‘friendly’ dolphins who have become used to interacting with people will move to another area but once again solicit human company. So if anyone hears of a ‘new’ friendly dolphin anywhere on the west coast, look closely, compare photos with those on this website, and let us know!
